Irish received verbal pledge from Scout.com 4-star wide receiver DaVaris Daniels. Irish Eyes gives…
Daniels: "No Other Place"
"I just pulled the trigger about 30 minutes ago," Daniels said. "I've been liking them for so long. I realized that there was no other place for me to be. I think they can make be a better person and as a player on the field. I think they have all the pieces in place to get things done, especially with all the players we have in this class.
"I've gotten more love from the fans, the coaches, the players and the players in this class. I just felt that it was the right thing to do."
"I'm excited," Daniels said. "It's been awhile since I've been this happy. I know I'm making the right decision, so that makes me even happier. I'm just excited to get things going."
Although Daniels grew up outside the Chicago area, he really didn't know a lot about the program until the recruiting process began. Although Charlie Weis was the Irish head coach at that time, DaVaris likes what he has seen from his future head coach.
"They brought coach Kelly in and he has the fire," Daniels said. "He wants to win now. They've lost a couple games, but he still has the same energy going into every game. He wants to win and he wants to win bad, and I think I can help him do that.
"I see how they use T.J. (Jones). We're kind of the same player, but I'm a little bigger. Talking to him, he made a huge part in my decision."
With scholarship offers from Oklahoma, Miami, Arkansas, Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois, Wisconsin among other, Daniels tried to keep his recruitment in perspective as he headed into his senior season.
"I've been kind of busy, just focusing my season and my academics," he explained. "I figure this is the best situation for me and it all worked out.
"In the end, it was between Notre Dame and Miami."
Now with his college decision out of the way, Daniels can focus his attention on a state title run.
"Things are going great," Daniels said of his senior season. "We're 5-0 and we have a chance to make it down to state. We're in a pretty good position right now. I'm healthy this year and I'm playing better than I've ever played. I'm excited and just doing whatever it takes to win."
