No Concern from Atkinson
"It had a tough loss," Atkinson said. "We should have won. We didn't play well though. We're 1-1 in the conference, but we should make the play-offs. I'm doing alright. I'm not sure of how many rushing and receiving yards I have, but I do have ten touchdowns.
Something else that George has is an invitation to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Representatives from the all-star game stopped by Granada High School last Wednesday to present him his invitation to the game.
"It was nice," he said. "It's a dream come true. I've always wanted to play in that game. You get an opportunity to play against the top talent from across the country. It means a lot. It's an honor, but I try to stay humble and be grateful for what I have and I know I couldn't do it without my teammates.
Although there is still work to be done in his senior season, Atkinson has paid close attention to his future teammates. Despite the Irish stumbling out to a 3-3 mark, George has seem the growth from the team.
"You just have to put it in perspective," George said. "There's a new coaching staff, the players are going through an adjustment period. They lost to some good teams, teams that are ranked. They should have beat Michigan and Michigan State. They lost both games in the last possessions, but they could have easily won those games and be ranked in the top-25. It's not like they lost to teams that weren't any good.
"They had a couple big wins the last couple weeks and it seems like they're starting to come into their own on offense and defense."
Atkinson has paid close attention to what the Irish are doing on offense, because it's likely that he'll be fighting for snaps at this point next season.
""They said that they want to put me at the ‘X' receiver spot and that they'd like to put me in the backfield as well," he explained. "When I watch the games, I focus in on how they spread the ball around and what routes the wide receivers run. They really try to spread the field and try to get their players in open space. I think I'm best suited in open space, so I like what I see."
Atkinson still likes what he sees and hears from the Notre Dame staff. Despite the early season trouble and pounding by the national media, George is still confident in his decision to commit to Notre Dame.
"Definitely," he said. "My brother is going to go there. My dad wanted me to go there. It's got a great education… I like everything about it. I just think that it's the best fit for me."
