South Bend Duo Shines

Gehrig Dieter

With combines starting to pop up across the Midwest, Irish Eyes spent the holiday weekend on the road looking for possible Notre Dame targets for the Class of 2012. On Monday, we found two in the Irish backyard.

Monday found Irish Eyes watching some solid prospects at The (Real) Best of the Midwest Football Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana. We also got a chance to check out South Bend (IN) Washington High School teammates Gehrig Dieter and David Perkins. Both showed solid skills and should see their interest climb.

Dieter, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound wide receiver showed solid skills getting off the line against some tough competition and nice hands in making several nice plays during the days drills. Because of his performance, he was also a quarterback favorite as he ran solid routes.

(Irish Eyes will have more on Dieter and his interest in Notre Dame later.)

The next player from former Notre Dame player Antwan Jones is David Perkins. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Perkins is listed as a wide receiver by Scout.com. However, after watching him perform it will be very hard for teams to keep him off defense, as he was clearly the player who turned more heads during the day's events.

Both players will have to work on several different areas to earn their chances of getting a scholarship offer from Notre Dame.
