IE Take: Nick Baratti

IE Take: Nick Baratti

The verbal commitment of Nick Baratti was not a surprise to those who have been following the native Texan's recruitment. Irish Eyes gives its take on the newest member of the Class of 2012.

When prospects bring family members and coaches back for a spring game visit they usually end with a verbal commitment to the program. That was the case with Spring (TX) Klein Oak High School safety Nick Baratti.

Here is our take on the newest member of the Notre Dame recruiting class of 2012.

What To Like

Standing 6-foot-2, 190-pounds, Baratti has the physical build the Irish like to have for the safety position. Add in some time with Paul Longo in the future, and Baratti will be the total package with another 25-pounds on his frame.

Watching film of Baratti on the defensive side of the ball you see a player willing to come up and play the run who is very fluid in his body movement. Shows good hip flexibility and outstanding closing speed needed for coverage. Best football looks to be ahead of him.

What May Concern You

The film we watched showed a lot of Baratti in run support and not much in pass coverage. While there is always an adjustment from high school to college, look for some adjustments to be made in this area. Nevertheless, Baratti has the athletic skills to excel as a safety.

Bottom Line

Some might look at the offer list and ask where some of the bigger programs are. However, Baratti fits well in the Irish 3-4 defensive scheme as a safety. With three defensive backfield prospects now in the fold, this addition has the Irish off to a super strong start at an area of need.
