Payton Says Notre Dame Visit On Tap

Oaks Christian High (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) four-star receiver Jordan Payton is committed to USC, but he is also taking visits. He told IrishEyes.com that a visit to Notre Dame is in the works, but when will it be? He talked about whether it will come in the summer, or whether he will wait until the fall to make the trip.

Oaks Christian High (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) receiver Jordan Payton committed to USC more than a year ago, but the Trojans are going to have to work very hard to keep him.

One of the programs in the thick of the recruiting race for Scout.com's No. 5-rated receiver is Notre Dame, and he is planning on making a visit to campus.

"Probably (an) official visit," Payton told IrishEyes.com. "We're looking at the summer, too, but me and my family are trying to figure that stuff out. I'm still committed (to USC). I just want to see what Notre Dame has to offer. Sound Bend is a pretty cool place."

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Payton is also looking into an official visit to Florida after he saw interest from a number of schools swell during the spring evaluation period.

Playing for one of the top programs in California, Payton followed a 1,000-yard sophomore season by making 61 catches for 907 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior.

And although he has been committed to USC since March 2010, Payton remains in contact with the Irish coaching staff, particularly assistant coach Mike Denbrock.

"I'm talking to them once or twice a week -- coach Denbrock -- so we're pretty close," he said. "He's a good guy."

Payton is also in the midst of setting up a time to talk to coach Brian Kelly to learn how the Irish's leader would use him in the offense.

"I don't know when, but it's scheduled for me to speak on the phone with him," Payton said. "I'm just looking how things are going with recruiting."

And while an Oct. 22 visit to South Bend for the game against USC makes perfect sense, Payton said dates for his trips are not set.

"I have no idea when it will be," he said. "I'm completely clueless about that stuff right now."
