IE Quick Take: Romeo Okwara

IE Quick Take: Romeo Okwara

Charlotte (NC) Ardrey Kell product Romeo Okwara has added his name to the list of committed players for Notre Dame in the Class of 2012. Irish Eyes offers its first take on the newest member of the class.

Sunday found Romeo Okwara ready to end his recruitment after spending a couple of days visiting Notre Dame early in the week. At just under 6-foot-5, Okwara has the length the Irish like on defense and also has the athletic ability to be able to play on the line or drop back into coverage as a linebacker.

WHAT TO LIKE

After watching some film of the North Carolina native, I came away very impressed with the overall athletic ability shown by Okwara. Athletic, quick, explosive, are just some of the words that should be used in describing Okwara on the field. With his length and quickness Okwara fits in perfect as an outside linebacker/defensive end in the Irish 3-4 defensive scheme.

WHAT MAY CONCERN YOU

The first thing some will look at is the lack of a ranking on Scout.com. At this time it does not look like he's been seen by anyone in the network. I'm sure that will soon change and when they do look at him they'll be as impressed as I was.

BOTTOM LINE

While Irish fans were hoping for a few other names to drop this weekend, Okwara is a great addition to the class. Okwara has the physical tools the Irish look for on the defensive side of the ball, and he is only 16 years old.

How much growth does he still have? That could play a factor if he's able to stay as a linebacker or grow into a straight defensive end. Don't pay any attention to his current Scout.com ranking, that I feel will soon change and Romeo will be a high 3-star and could move into contention to be a 4-star before all is said and done.
