Four-star Caleb Remains Open

Joel Caleb

Notre Dame offered Clover Hill High (Midlothian, Va.) athlete Joel Caleb a long time ago, but his recruitment has been very quiet, especially for a player with more than 50 offers. So, what is the latest with Caleb? IrishEyes.com has the story inside.

Notre Dame certainly isn't in the best position with Clover Hill High (Midlothian, Va.) athlete Joel Caleb, but Cavaliers coach Sean O'Hare said the Irish continue to hang around.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Caleb hasn't trimmed his list of suitors very much, other than to say Virginia Tech is the only in-state school he is considering.

"I know he said Virginia Tech is the only school in Virginia he's thinking about," O'Hare said. "I know he told some coaches from a few schools he doesn't really want to go where it's going to be too cold.

"He really hasn't narrowed it to where he said, ‘Ok, these are the top 10, or these are the top five.' I know a few SEC schools he's excited about, and he's trying to take a visit to Florida and he likes Virginia Tech. But it's pretty open."

Caleb plays quarterback for Clover Hill, he surpassed 1,300 passing yards and 20 touchdowns with his arm, and ran for more than 800 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior.

He is being recruited to play receiver, where he excelled at The Opening in Beaverton, Ore., last month.

But with Notre Dame not exactly mistaken for being in the sun belt region of the nation, are the Irish still involved with Caleb?

"I know he's been talking to (Notre Dame assistant Bob) Diaco," O'Hare said. "As far as Notre Dame, it's one of those storybook programs. I told him it's one of those things he should look it, and he is."

O'Hare said he is hopeful Caleb will trim his list prior to the start of the season so he can begin setting up official visits.

"I had a talk with his mom," O'Hare said. "All these schools, you're going to get a great education, play great football. You're going to go to a place where you feel special leaving it (after a visit).

"He needs to kind of start getting his hands on where he's going to take official visits."
