4-star RB Anticipating Weekend Visit to ND

Byron Marshall

Notre Dame will have a plenthora of official visitors this weekend, including eight known players from California. One of them is four-star running back Byron Marshall, who spoke to IrishEyes.com about his expectations for his trip.

Byron Marshall doesn't know who will be at Notre Dame when he makes his official visit this weekend, but he knows the campus will be packed with recruits, and recruits he knows well.

Marshall, a four-star running back from San Jose's Valley Christian School, is one of eight California players expected in South Bend, Ind., for Saturday's game with USC. It will be his second visit to campus in two months

"This trip is mainly for show," the 5-foot-10, 195-pound Marshall said. "I took an unofficial to Notre Dame in the summer and was at the school for 10 hours. I got to see the whole school, met team, saw locker room, saw the field and talked to an academic advisor.

"Right now I get to see coaches again, which is good, and how they prepare for a game and what the environment is like during a game.

"They do a huge walk-in through the crowd before the game. It's something I've heard about and I want to see it."

Marshall added he is not looking to see anything in particular on his visit to Notre Dame, but wants to bond more with the players.

"I know we get a host, and we get to kick it with him, and really talk to him and see how school really is and that is something I didn't get to do," Marshall said. "I talked to a graduate assistant and spent a lot of time with him (during the unofficial visit) and got to ask him about being a player there.

"I get to ask a player from the team and see what it is like to be a player."

While Marshall wasn't sure of the extensive visitors list for the weekend, he knows plenty of the California players who will be joining him in St. John Bosco (Bellflower) receiver Bryce Treggs, Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) receiver Jordan Payton and cornerback Ishmael Adams, Grant (Sacramento) safety Shaquille Thompson, Pleasant Grove (Elk Grove) offensive tackle Arik Armstead and Notre Dame commits and Washington Union (Fresno) seniors Tee Shepard and Deontay Greenberry.

"I know Bryce because we've been to Cal plenty of times and Arizona State, and the same with Ishmael Adams," Marshall said. "I know Shaq Thompson from camps, and I know about the cornerback (Shepard). I've seen those guys at camps."

In fact, Marshall was on an official visit to Arizona State a few weeks ago for the Sun Devils' win against USC.

"It was cool," he said. "I had a real good time. The atmosphere was pretty real. It was a real big win."

Other than Notre Dame, the only other official visit Marshall has set is for the weekend of Nov. 26, when he will be in Oregon for the battle against Oregon State.

He said he is also talking with Washington and California about setting up official visits.
