Sorenson Holds Irish High

Irisheyes.com checked in with 2013 offensive lineman Riley Sorenson and his early interest in Notre Dame.

While Notre Dame works to finish up the class of 2012, several future prospects already have the Irish in their sights. One such top prospect is Santa Margarita (CA) Catholic offensive lineman Riley Sorenson.

At 6-foot-6, 282-pounds, Sorenson has the physical size the Irish look for along the offensive line.

"I've received some mail from them recently," said Sorenson. Right now I've not had any contact with them."

While the question always arises when a prospect lives a great distance from Notre Dame, Sorenson feels his families back ground makes heading to the Midwest a possibility.

"My dad's family is from the Midwest," said Sorenson. "So the Midwest is kind familiar territory in a way as they are from Minnesota.

"I would say I could pretty much go anywhere as long as I'm comfortable with the school, football program, and the whole lifestyle. I don't feel being away from home will play much in my decision."

Sorenson is open as to his future college position and knows his strengths may help him hear more from the Irish.

"I can play guard or tackle," said Sorenson. "It really does not matter to me. I feel pass blocking is one of my strengths as I've only given up like two sacks the past two seasons. I feel my run blocking has improved and know I need to continue working on my agility and foot speed while getting a little stronger."

Are there future plans to visit Notre Dame or other colleges for campus this summer?

"I've really not looked into those things yet," said Sorenson. "I've been invited to several of the combine camps but not sure if I'll be attending any of them."

Already holding an offer from SMU, does Sorenson have any colleges he favors?

"I don't really have a list at the moment," said Sorenson. "Right now I'm just observing my options to see what my possibilities are."

How would it be to earn an offer from the Irish?

"It would be amazing," said Sorenson. "Notre Dame is very difficult to get into. So just to be able to get in there to play football would be awesome.

"I've heard Notre Dame is a really incredible campus and the academics are extremely strong. A degree from Notre Dame gives you some serious leverage going in for a job if you don't make it to the next level."
