Hopkins Hearing From Many

Notre Dame along with several other programs has made early contact with 2013 lineman Tommy Hopkins. IrishEyes.com caught up with Hopkins for the latest news.

When you stand 6-foot-6, 280-pounds and play football, there is a good chance college coaches are going to evaluate if you can fit somewhere in their programs.

For Thornwood (NY) Westlake High School lineman Tommy Hopkins several schools have taken notice.

"A bunch of schools have contacted me," said Hopkins. "UConn, Syracuse, Virginia, Duke and Temple have all visited my school. Penn State, Notre Dame, Iowa and Illinois have also been looking at me."

Will Hopkins be making a Junior Day visits?

"I'm going to Penn State on the 18th and UConn on the 25th," Hopkins said.

Hopkins is looking for a few simple requirements in his school of choice.

"I want to attend a good academic school," he explained. "They must also have a good football program and play in a big conference."

In the classroom Hopkins is also finding success.

"Right now I have about a 92% overall average," said Hopkins. "I made both the National and Spanish Honor Societies this year."

Hopkins knows there is a good chance he'll have to leave the comforts of home to find what he's looking for in a college program. He also knows he needs to continue working on his game.

"Leaving home is not a big factor for me," said Hopkins. "I know I need to get a little bit bigger and faster. But I'm a very smart and aggressive player on the field."

Having been invited to Irish games in the past has Hopkins and his father looking at a possible visit to South Bend this spring.

"My father and I are determining the schools we're going to visit this spring," he explained. "Notre Dame is one of the schools on the list."

Below are highlights of Hopkins from his sophomore season.
