Berk's Breakdown: Ezekiel Elliott

IrishEyes.com recruiting analyst Dave Berk looks at newly offered running back prospect Ezekiel Elliott.

Prospect: Ezekiel Elliott
Position: Running Back
Height/Weight: 6-foot-0 | 195-pounds
High School: St. Louis (MO) John Burroughs HS

Offers To Date: Notre Dame, Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Ohio State, Virginia, Wisconsin.

Strengths

Great combination of size and speed as Elliott stands 6-foot, 200-pounds with a reported 4.4 forty. On film Elliott shows great burst and balance and is capable of being a dual threat running and catching the football out of the backfield.

Weakness

On film Elliott lines up deep in the backfield (five yards behind quarterback) on the majority of carries. In the Irish attack he'll have to adjust to taking snaps next to the quarterback and without the running start he's been getting. While we list this as a weakness Elliott does have a few carries on film lining up as a spread running back.

Overall

Love the ability shown by Elliott coming out of the backfield and catching the ball on swing passes. Very athletic and smooth running the ball and in his cuts with the ability to accelerate quickly.

Early Thoughts

Elliott's recruiting will be interesting as he's talked about the importance of academics in his college search. One program that may have an upper hand is Missouri as his father played football and mother ran track for the Tigers.

One development that could help the Irish is Elliott's desire to also run track in college with the success of current members of the Irish football program taking part in the sport.
