At 6-foot-7, 292-pounds, McGovern fills a need along the Irish offensive line.
WHAT TO LIKE
There is no mistaking the talent McGovern shows on film as he's got the long frame you love from offensive linemen. On film you see a player who is a natural bender who works off a solid base. McGovern does a great job of exploding from his hips and keeps his feet to reach second level defenders. The fact McGovern is looking to be an early enrollee helps the Irish in filling a need and should give him a chance to compete early in his career.
WHAT MAY CONCERN YOU
As Irish fans learned in the last class the recruiting process is far from over for McGovern. Despite his pledge, expect programs to stay in hot pursuit. If he's able to enroll early it will take away from any possible signing day surprises.
The Irish needed to add a couple more offensive linemen to go with Steven Elmer in the class. Adding McGovern, and later in the day Hunter Bivin, (and since, Mike McGlinchey), gives the Irish a solid base to build the remainder of the class. McGovern is capable of playing tackle or guard at the next level and gives Irish offensive line coach Harry Hiestand a player he'll be able to mold into one of the best in the country.
