FOXSportsNEXT released its new rankings during the week, and IrishEyes.com takes a look at where each of the committed players sit.

FOXSportsNEXT released its preseason rankings throughout the week, and Notre Dame continued to be represented well.

The Irish have 15 four-star commits, one five-star commit and a trio of three-star commits. The Irish also have two of the top three ranked outside linebackers, the No. 10 quarterback and five linemen ranked in the Top 20 at their positions.

The jewel of the class is Bishop Luers (Fort Wayne, Ind.) linebacker Jaylon Smith, who is ranked No. 1 in the nation at his position.

Danny Mattingly of Mead High (Spokane, Wash.), who was recruited to play outside linebacker but is rated as a tight end, is the No. 50 prospect in the west. He is also the No. 3 prospect in Washington.

In Texas, running back Jamel James is the No. 39-rated prospect, and the Cinco Ranch (Katy) high standout is the No. 29 ranked running back in the nation.

Notre Dame is active in the Lone Star State and also pulled in San Antonio Christian receiver Corey Robinson, the No. 38 player at his position and No. 50 prospect in the state.

In Pennsylvania, the Irish came landed three of the top 11 prospects, led by Wyomissing (Pa.) High outside linebacker Alex Anzalone, who is the third-rated players in the state. Offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey (20th OT overall) is the eighth rated player in the state and receiver Will Fuller (36th WR overall) is the 11th player overall.

American Heritage School (Plantation, Fla.) middle linebacker Michael Deeb was a bit under-the-radar and is the 50th-rated prospect in Florida, and No. 26 middle linebacker.

The Irish also went to Florida to fill a much-needed tight end spot in Naples Barron Collier High’s Mike Heuerman, the 10th-rated tight end in the nation and No. 33 prospect in Florida.

Notre Dame has commitments from plenty of players from Christian schools, and one of the best is defensive end Isaac Rochell of McDonough (Ga.) Eagles Landing Christian Academy. He is the No. 9 defensive end in the nation and the No. 6 prospect in the Peach State.

In getting an early commitment from Archbishop Alter (Kettering, Ohio) quarterback Malik Zaire, Notre Dame grabbed the No. 10 quarterback nationally and the No. 6 player in the state.

Notre Dame also pulled in Bishop Hartley (Columbus, Ohio) standout Jacob Matuska, who is rated as the No. 27 defensive end in the nation and the No. 19 player in Ohio.

Kentucky doesn’t produce a ton of high-level talent, but Notre Dame picked up the top offensive lineman in the state (No. 4 prospect in the state and No. 16 OT in the nation) in Owensboro High (Apollo, Ky.) offensive tackle Hunter Bivin.

The top player in New England is offensive guard John Montelus, who is also rated the No. 2 player in the nation at his position, is committed to the Irish.

Absegami High (Absecon, N.J.) athlete Rashad Kinlaw saw a slight drop in his ranking mostly because he hasn’t played a game in a year. He missed most of his junior season with a broken leg, and he suffered a broken ankle over the summer and will not be ready for the first few weeks of the season, so he dropped to the No. 15 prospect in the state.

Cornerback was an area of need in the class and Gonzaga College High’s Devin Butler is the No. 3 propect in Washington, D.C., and the No. 53 cornerback in the country.

The offensive line haul may be the best in the nation, and it started early with the fall commitment of Steven Elmer of Midland, Mich., who is the No. 2 prospect in the state and the No. 8 offensive tackle in the nation.

The No. 10 offensive tackle is Colin McGovern of Lincoln-Way West High (New Lennox, Ill.), who is the No. 5 prospect in the state.

Finally, the first receiver to join the Irish’s class was James Onwualu of Cretin Derham Hall (St. Paul, Minn.). He is the top-rated player in the state and No. 40 receiver in the country.
