Punahou High (Honolulu) linebacker Isaac Savaiinaea is committed to Stanford but looking at official visits, and IrishEyes.com has the latest on where Notre Dame stands.

Punahou High (Honolulu) linebacker Isaac Savaiinaea is more than halfway through his senior season already, and that means there will be plenty of time for official visits later on.

And while the 6-foot-3, 235-pound Savaiinaea remains committed to Stanford, there will be more than one official visit on his schedule.

“He’s verbally committed to Stanford but he will make some visits,” Punahou coach Kale Ane said. “I think Notre Dame is on the last. So is Texas A&M. And maybe Florida.”

Savaiinaea committed to Stanford in March, his involvement in high level camps, particularly The Opening, enticed him to look a little deeper at the recruiting process.

Notre Dame was well represented at the event, with a handful of commits there working other players hard, and Savaiinaea spent time with several members of the Irish’s 2013 class.

“He went to The Opening and met a lot of people and it opened his eyes as to what’s out there and to ask questions, and to do his homework and to make sure it is the right decision,” Ane said. “He met a lot of people there that were talking to him about things like that.”

Savaiinaea remains committed to the Cardinal, and his focus is more on the field than in recruiting.

He missed several games earlier this season because of a finger injury, but he is back on the field. Savaiinaea has also seen his gave evolve this season.

“I think he’s willing to make mistakes and realized he doesn’t have to go out there and be perfect,” Ane said. “His studying (of film) has improved but his willingness to make mistakes has freed him up and allowed him to go and play more.”

Savaiinaea also took on a bigger leadership role this season.

“This year everyone looks to him all the time and he’s embraced what we asked him to do,” Ane said. “We asked him to work with the younger players so they can for when they have to be the leaders, and he’s done that.”
