When the New Year rolls around Owensboro (KY) Apollo offensive lineman Hunter Bivin
will be headed to the place dreams are made: Disney World and the Under Armour All-American game.
How does it feel to be considered one of the top players in the country?
"It feels pretty good and should be a lot of fun playing with all the best players in the country," said Bivin. "I also get to go to Disney World and I haven't been there since I was like two or three years old.
Despite being in a basketball state, Bivin has seen his status rise over the past year.
"I think (former Kentucky star and NBA veteran) Rex Chapman was the last big something to come out of Apollo," said Bivin. "So there has been a lot of support and it's been a lot of fun."
Bivin won't be alone taking in the sights of the land of Mickey Mouse.
"I know Colin McGovern is going," said Bivin about his future teammate. "I'm not sure of anybody else (Alex Anzalone) right now. Colin's a cool guy and we sit next to each other at all the games and talk quite a bit. So I'm looking forward to it."
The last time Bivin visited campus came when the Irish battled Michigan. While he's always been impressed with his game day experiences, this one left a lasting impression.
"I've been up there this year for the Michigan and Purdue games," said Bivin. "The Michigan game was a fun time and a good game with a great atmosphere. It was pretty loud and reminded me a lot to the atmosphere at last year's USC game except it was a lot better since we won. It was a great time and definitely the best Notre Dame game I've been to so far."
With his recruiting out of the way, Bivin was hoping his team could get off to a fast start. However, the season has seen many struggles.
"We've been really struggling so far," explained Bivin. "We're now 1-4 on the season as we've had some people out and turnovers have killed us. We have a new head coach this year and are adjusting to a new offense. But there are no really good excuses to be made.
"We're trying to stay positive and win a few games down the strength and make the playoffs. The top four teams in the district go to the playoffs and we've already played two of them losing both games. So if we can win one out of the two remaining district games we'll go to the playoffs."
The past year has been one to remember for Owensboro (KY) Apollo offensive lineman Hunter Bivin. First were scholarship offers by many top programs, a commitment to Notre Dame, and a selection to represent his country as a member of Team USA. Last week Bivin added All-American status to his list.
