One of the top receivers in the 2014 recruiting class made a last minute decision that may have changed his outlook on the recruiting process. Austin Roberts talks about his visit to Notre Dame.

The recruiting process got off to a fast start for Carmel (Ind.) wide receiver Austin Roberts with early offers from the likes of Ohio State, Florida, Stanford and Colorado to name a few.

Roberts, who this week made a last minute change of plans, took a trip to South Bend to check out Notre Dame against Stanford.

"I visited Notre Dame on Saturday," said Roberts. "It was pretty exciting. I just got on their recruiting radar and was not originally going to the game. My coach asked me if I wanted to go to the game and he called the coaching staff and let them know I wanted to show up and they got me three tickets."

For the 6-foot-2, 196-pound receiver, Saturday's trip opened his eyes.

"I was able to get a chance to see The Gug (Guglielmino Athletic Complex) and Touchdown Jesus and all of that," said Roberts. "I didn't get a chance to see a lot of the campus as I was there mainly for the game.

"I did meet (assistant) coach Tony Alford their running back coach but did not really meet any other people. But I did get a glimpse of the game and the game day atmosphere. The crowd was into it the whole entire time and I got a chance to crowd surf for the first time. I don't know too many recruits who get a chance to do that and then to rush the field at the end of the game, it was great."

While the Irish have yet to offer, Roberts now is hopeful one could come in the near future.

"I definitely would like to receive an offer from Notre Dame," said Roberts. "That way I can further look into the school knowing that I could go there if I wanted to. I definitely got a good initial glimpse of what life is like there."

After leaving campus Roberts still had fond memories of his visit.

"Definitely the excitement of the game, especially when you rush the field at the end it was amazing," said Roberts. "Secondly it would have been how physical the two teams were in the game in not great conditions. Both teams just went out there and duked it out to overtime."

Prior to receiving offers Roberts held one program as a favorite. However, that has changed as he's learned more about other programs.

"I did always favor USC," said Roberts about the Trojans. "But when you see more places it changes your whole outlook on things so I don't really have a favorite at this time."

Will Notre Dame be another program to offer the early FOXSportsNEXT.com four-star wide receiver?

IrishEyes.com will continue to follow Roberts to see if the Irish get on board.
