Belton (Texas) High tight end Durham Smythe, who committed to Texas in the spring but recently opened his recruitment, is set again.
Smythe committed to the Irish at the end of his official visit.
"Officially committed to the University of Notre Dame! #IrishMob13 #ND," Smythe announced via Twitter.
The decision is not a surprise. He grew up a Notre Dame fan and had the Irish in his final three along with Michigan and Stanford. He was originally slated to visit Michigan this weekend and Notre Dame next weekend, but he changed it after getting a visit from the Irish staff.
When Smythe spoke to IrishEyes.com recently, and after he was told he still had an offer, he talked about his fondness for Notre Dame.
"“I grew up a Notre Dame fan,” he said. “I’ve always been a big fan. Now that they’re back in the process, that’s exciting. I’ve only been up there once, which is the summer going into my sophomore year and that was a three-day camp, which wasn’t too thorough as far as seeing everything."
