Fuller Ready To Push For Early Time

Will Fuller

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. -- With Notre Dame losing two receivers to transfers, Irish signee Will Fuller talks about what he needs to do to get on the field early.

Will Fuller can run the routes, has tremendous acceleration and some of the best hands of any receiver in the 2013 class.

He just needs to gain weight. And a good deal of it.

Fuller, who signed with Notre Dame in February, was decked out in an Irish sweat suit at the Plymouth Whitemarsh High as he watched his friends take part in the PASwag 7-on-7. And the topic of conversation surrounded his drive to add weight.

"I've been working out and trying to get a little bit bigger before I go up to Notre Dame," Fuller said. "They gave me a packet and I gave it to my trainer, and we've just been going from there and working out."

Fuller, who is 6-foot-1, said he gained five pounds since the end of the season and is up to 167 pounds. His goal is to add another five by the time he enrolls in June and then compete for immediate playing time.

"They just want me to gain weight," Fuller said. "I think they like my skills, but once I get up there I'll see what they want."

The need for a freshman receiver to contribute took on added importance a few weeks ago when the Irish announced receivers Davonte Neal and Justin Ferguson were transferring.

Fuller, who made 57 catches for 932 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior, plans on competing for early playing time. The exodus of the two receivers pushes Fuller more.

"It increases my hunger," he said. "Now, I have a better shot to go up there and play early, which I think I already had, but it makes it a little bit easier."

In the interim, Fuller is anxious for his first trip to campus in a while. He plans on catching up with other members of the 2013 class and spreading the word about Notre Dame with 2014 and 2015 prospects during Saturday's spring game.

"I can't wait," he said. "I haven't been out there in a while so it should be fun."
