Geben calls Irish offer an "honor"

Power forward Martin Geben is impressing coaches on the spring circuit, and after picking up offers from three ACC programs last week, he discusses where he stands with recruitment and why he's a wanted man on the court.

Power forward Martinas (Martin) Geben of Hagerstown (Md.) St. Maria Goretti was offered by three ACC programs in the last week – Notre Dame, Maryland, and Virginia.

Geben said the Irish offer was something he wasn't expecting. The Lithuanian native also holds offers from programs such as Xavier, Loyola, Temple, Dayton, St. Joseph's, and Bucknell. Geben came to the United States after his freshman year.

"I was pretty surprised because I wasn't expecting it," Geben said. "They had watched me play a few times. It is a great honor to get an offer from such a great program. Notre Dame is really strong academically and they have great support for their athletes."

Geben plays for Team Takeover, who played in Los Angeles back-to-back weekends in April. He says Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey and assistants Anthony Solomon and Rod Balonis are heading up his recruitment.

"The Notre Dame coaches saw me play our in L.A., and they really liked my game," Geben said. "They like that I'm a stretch four that can play inside and also stay outside and knock down shots. I'm a good rebounder and a good defender. I'm mobile and can find the open man. I need to work on getting stronger inside and developing my handle."

"I can play both up-tempo and half-court," Geben said. "I'm probably more comfortable playing it slow and bringing it up the court and getting set."

The 6-foot-8, 195-pound forward says he doesn't have any early favorites, but Notre Dame will be in the mix.

"There is a good chance that I will visit," Geben said. "I don't have anything set up but I would definitely like to get out there."

"Academics will play a big role in my decision," Geben said. "That will probably be the main thing."

Geben is a three-star prospect and he averaged 17 points and 12 boards last season. Recommended Stories
