The New Ara
Irish "rekindling" relationship with Bluiett
Posted May 5, 2013
Small forward Trevon Bluiett is one of 2014's most pure shooters, and after an impressive performance at one the most loaded AAU events of the spring, Bluiett solidfied that reputation even more. Bluiett explains where he stands with Notre Dame and the rest of recruitment.
of Indianapolis (Ind.) Park Tudor put on a shooting display this weekend at Spiece Run N Slam in Fort Wayne. Bluiett helped lead his team, Spiece Indy Heat, to the semi-finals on Sunday where they fell to All-Ohio.
was one of the first schools to offer Bluiett his sophomore year, and he admits the contact between the two parties hasn’t been constant since. However, Bluiett said things are starting to pick back up. “[Notre Dame assistant] Coach Solomon did his thing during the season, and I did my thing,” Bluiett said. “We talked last week, and we’re starting to rekindle that relationship. We’re starting where we left off.” “Notre Dame is a great program because of the people that they have,” Bluiett said. “They play a great style of basketball and they have a lot to offer off of the court. They see me playing a two or three in college, like most schools.” Known for being able to knock down a shot from anywhere on the court, the 6-foot-5, 185-pound forward wants to fine tune other parts of his game, including becoming faster, stronger and more athletic. “I’m becoming more of leader on the court,” Bluiett said. “I’m being more vocal. People list me as a shooter, but I’m trying to work on driving and even more important, my defense.” Bluiett says he’s planning on narrowing his list in the next couple of weeks. “It’s going to be really hard,” Bluiett said. “I want to see what schools have a good role that I can grow into. I am going to narrow my list down pretty soon, so I can figure out where I’m going to take my official visits.” Other than Notre Dame, schools like
, and others remain in the mix and talking to Bluiett. Scout.com national basketball analyst Brian Snow reviewed Bluiett’s performance on Saturday. “This is a cat who can just flat out fill it up. Bluiett is one of the best shooters in the country, but he also is an excellent rebounder and someone with the savvy to know how to convert around the rim. Not an elite athlete by any stretch, Bluiett is doing a better job on the defensive end and continues to get buckets on offense. In the afternoon win over Team Thad he was spectacular and showed why he is such a priority recruit for many schools in the Midwest.” Bluiett is a four-star prospect and ranked as the No. 14 small forward in the nation.
