Notre Dame offered Pine Forest High (Fayetteville, N.C.) four-star defensive tackle Lamont Gaillard on Friday, but the Irish have their work cut out for them.
The 6-foot-3, 315-pound Gaillard said he will give the Irish a strong look, but added he has a leader and plans to visit three other schools this summer.
“Georgia is in the lead right now,” he said. “I like the coaches. They make me feel good and I feel like I’m at home.”
Gaillard already visited Georgia and will return to campus soon. He also plans to visit South Carolina and Clemson but is contemplating a trip to Notre Dame.
“They just went to the national championship, so that gives them a little bit of a boost,” Gaillard said. “I don’t know much about them, but I’m willing to learn. All I really know is they went to the national championship that’s about it.”
Irish defensive line coach Mike Elston visited Pine Forest High earlier this month, but wasn’t in contact much until the offer came.
“The coach came out to my school and saw me practice,” Gaillard said. “He saw me working out and everything. I guess he waited for a while and then he decided to offer me today.
“I talked to him when he offered me. They liked my movement and they thought I would be able to go there and get some good playing time.”
