All Irish: DeShone Kizer

All Irish: DeShone Kizer

In the sixth of its series for the 2014 recruiting class, Irish four-star quarterback commit DeShone Kizer of Toledo (Ohio) Central Catholic is broken down with a recruitment recap, prospect analysis, and more.

DeShone Kizer (Quarterback 6'5", 205)

Location: Toledo (Ohio) Central Catholic

Rank: No. 17 quarterback, No. 263 overall, Four-star

Quick Hit:

Even though Kizer jumped on board last June, that's rather late in the game to add a quarterback to a class by today's standards. When Notre Dame lost its No. 1 quarterback target, Kyle Allen, to the Aggies, the Irish were forced to reevaluate their options. At this point, the only other quarterback with an Irish offer was Brandon Dawkins, who tried to commit to Notre Dame, but was told his offer was not a committable one.

It was then that DeShone Kizer entered the picture. Because Allen was the No. 1 target for a number of big programs, Notre Dame was not the only school that brought Plan B to action, thus the month of June featured a domino effect of quarterbacks committing to schools. Kizer teetered on the edge of a Notre Dame offer for what seemed like forever in recruiting time, but Brian Kelly and former Notre Dame offensive coordinator Chuck Martin were in-depth on their quarterback research. Quarterbacks David Cornwell and Jacob Park were also extended Notre Dame offers, but it was Kizer who jumped on the offer first after a visit to campus that sealed the deal.

Kizer was slated to visit LSU, but he instead visited Notre Dame in mid-June and committed shortly thereafter. Kizer also considered Alabama and Tennessee.

A mobile quarterback with impressive height, Kizer has the intangibles to blossom into a successful quarterback at Notre Dame.

Notable Quotable:

"Coach Martin tells me exactly how it is. We haven't had a lot of conversations, but the ones that we've had have been really good and we've covered a lot of ground. Coach Kelly and Coach Martin told me that they did a lot of research of me and they liked what they saw and the feedback that they got. They are Midwest guys and they talked with coaches that have offered me and coaches that have seen me in camps. They even talked with coaches that I have played against. The more they learned about me, the more they liked me." – Kizer
