2016 four-star wants Irish offer

RIsing junior four-star linebacker Daelin Hayes of Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary Prep visited Notre Dame for the second time over the weekend. He recaps that visit, talks summer plans, and explains where the Irish would fall in his pecking order should they offer.

On Saturday, Notre Dame received a visit from the No. 7 ranked outside linebacker in the class of 2016, four-star Daelin Hayes of Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary Prep.

"The visit went very well," Hayes said. "I was able to see all of the facilities and a lot of good things. I was there last year for the BYU game, but this time, we were able to take in more stuff."

Hayes' most recent offers include Cincinnati, Illinois, Penn State and Ohio State.

"Coach (Bob) Elliott told me that Notre Dame couldn't offer me until Coach (Brian) Kelly and Coach (Brian) VanGorder got back on campus. Coach VanGorder was at a wedding when I visited, so I'm going to give him a call later this week to talk.

Hayes said a Notre Dame offer would put the Irish in good position.

"It would put them in my top three," Hayes said.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound linebacker responded, "no comment," when asked who the other two schools are, though Michigan and Michigan State are regarded as frontrunners.

Hayes emphasized how education will play a role in his decision.

"If football doesn't work out, you need something else, so education will be important," Hayes said. "That, and coaching staff."

Hayes also plays running back in high school, though his future is on defense.

"I'm athletic, big, and always around the ball," Hayes said. "I can take on big running backs when they break through the line, and that's one of my biggest strengths."

This summer, Hayes also has plans to visit Ohio State. He has already seen Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Penn State.
