In April, athlete John Humphrey
of League City (Texas) Clear Falls committed to Baylor over finalists Notre Dame and Oklahoma. In late June, Humphrey decided to open things back up.
The 6-foot, 165-pound athlete now has a top four of Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oklahoma and Texas.
Humphrey has yet to set an exact date, but he knows that Notre Dame will receive an official visit in the fall.
"I'm ready to take a visit there as soon possible," Humphrey said. "I'm ready to see what they offer. I know that having a degree from Notre Dame is very superior. It's a degree that's unique because not many people in the country can claim that type of degree."
Notre Dame's recent success in recruiting the state of Texas is demonstrating its ripple effects.
"From hearing about Notre Dame from players that have been there and have been recruited by them, they all say that the coaches are really good people and cool to be around," Humphrey said. "They also say that Notre Dame is very traditional. I'm excited to get up there and see it for myself."
Humphrey says he maintains regular contact with both Irish assistant Kerry Cooks and Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly.
"We basically talk all about football," Humphrey said. "He (Cooks) doesn't try to get me to commit or visit right away, and I like how chill he is."
"Coach Cooks and Coach Kelly tell me that I can decide where I want to play when I get up there," Humphrey added. "They like me as an athlete right now."
Humphrey plans to take his official visits and announce his college destination in January.
"Education is first, including the graduation percentage of its players," Humphrey said. "Second is environment. I want a place that I would be happy outside of football, like a city with other things going on."
He added that no school is standing out above the rest in his top four.
"They're not in order right now."
Humphrey also explained that Baylor was left off his list because the Bears primarily like him on defense.
"My passion is 70 percent wide receiver and 30 percent defensive back," Humphrey said. "Baylor is only interested in me at defensive back."
Humphrey boasted 46 catches for 994 yards and 12 touchdowns in his junior year.
Humphrey is a three-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 61 cornerback in the class of 2015.
