Buford, Georgia running back Darius Walker became the 11th known commitment for the Irish today when he announced his decision to attend Notre Dame at a press conference at his high school. The star running back says he’s happy to be Irish.

”It’s been a huge day for me,” said Walker after his announcement. “I chose Notre Dame because of the tradition and Coach Willingham. I think Coach Willingham is going to be a legend, and I want to be a part of that.”

Walker caused some confusion by deciding to announce before his official visit. “I just felt like I had all the information I needed. I’ve been able to see some great schools and meet some great coaches--I’ve been fortunate. I just felt I had enough information to make a decision.”

Walker says he’s still planning on taking his official visit to Notre Dame this weekend. “I’m looking forward to that. I’m going to kind of see where everyone is leaning and see if I can get some buddies to come with me.”

Now that the decision is made, Walker says he can finally relax. “It’s a big relief. It’s been a fun road, but I’m relieved to have it all over with.”
