Grimes Commits to Notre Dame

Detroit wide receiver David Grimes became the eighth known commitment to Notre Dame on Sunday. Grimes called Irish Eyes to give us the details on his commitment. Why did Grimes choose Notre Dame?

David Grimes called Irish coach Mike Denbrock this morning and had some news for him. "I called coach Denbrock and committed to him earlier today," said David Grimes. "He was very excited about it. He said he was so glad to hear those words."

Grimes said he's known he wanted to go to Notre Dame for a while. "It was the perfect fit for me," Grimes said. "As far as academics, you can't get any better. It's big time football. I've known that I wanted to go there. I just had to be sure before calling. I'm sure that's what I want to do."

The 5-9, 170-pound Grimes said he family is thrilled with his decision. "My Mom wanted me to go there," Grimes said. "I told her before I called and she was really excited. My brother is also really excited for me. He told me that I needed to go where I wanted to go."

Grimes and quarterback Evan Sharpley have become friends and we asked Grimes if the Sharpley decision influenced his own. "No, not at all," he said. "I told my coach I was committing yesterday. I didn't even know about it until Evan called me today. I was really happy for him, too."

Grimes becomes the eighth known commitment to Notre Dame and fifth in three days.
