Sharpley Thrilled With New QB Coach

Evan Sharpely

Marshall, Mich. quarterback Evan Sharpley has had to do a lot of waiting for Notre Dame. The 6-2, 200-pound quarterback waited patiently for an offer earlier this summer, and now has patiently waited to find out who his new coach and quarterback coach would be. The talented Sharpley says the he's glad he waited after meeting new quarterback coach David Cutcliffe last evening.

Quarterback Evan Sharpley didn't have to wait long to meet his new coach as he had an in-home visit with new Irish quarterback coach David Cutcliffe late Sunday afternoon.

"I'm really excited," said Sharpley. "He's a great guy. He's definitely had some experience developing some great quarterbacks. I'm really looking forward to playing for him."

Sharpley said Cutcliffe should do very well in the homes of top targets he'll be recruiting.

"He's got a great personality and you feel really comfortable talking to him," Sharpley said of Cutcliffe. "Add that with his reputation and the reputation of the coaches coming in and you they should be able to pull in some guys that weren't previously considering Notre Dame. I think we're going to have a great recruiting class. I'm excited."

We asked Evan what questions he had for Cutcliffe.

"I didn't really ask too many. He had it all planned out and he did a lot of the talking," Sharpley said. "He covered his background, what type of offense he likes to run, the type of players he's looking for, we talked about what he likes in receivers. He pretty much covered everything so I didn't have many questions. I was very impressed with him. I just sat back and listened."

Sharpley says he'll be visiting Notre Dame the next few weekends.

"I'm going up there next weekend when coach Weis is in town and a bunch of those guys will be on official visits," he said. "My official visit will be the next weekend on the 14th."

So was the wait worth it for Sharpley?

"I'd definitely say yes," Sharpley said. "I'm really excited about the future. You worry because you don't know what's going to happen, but I don't think this could've worked out any better."
