Campbell Getting Noticed

Bruce Campbell, a 6-7, 265 pound defensive end from Hyde Leadership School (Hamden, Conn.) has started to receive a lot of recruiting attention from around the country. What has he heard from Notre Dame? What interest does he have in the Irish?

Connecticut isn't a hotbed for Division I football prospect, but Notre Dame has been able to find a couple gems the past three recruiting classes with fullback Asaph Schwapp (2005), wide receiver Christopher Vaughn (2004) and center John Sullivan (2003). This year, Bruce Campbell might be a player the Irish coaching staff might take a look at.

"No, I haven't heard anything," said Campbell when asked if Notre Dame had been in touch with him. "They had sent me some stuff during last season, but I haven't received anything from them since."

"I'd like to hear something from them," said Campbell. "If they contacted me, I'd listen."

What schools are currently recruiting Campbell the hardest?

"Right now, Maryland, Virginia, Michigan State, Nebraska, Penn St., Oklahoma, Illinois, Florida, Miami, Syracuse and Rutgers," responded Campbell.

"All of those have offered except Miami," he added.

Which schools is Campbell concentrating on?

"Probably Maryland, Virginia, Penn St., Miami, Michigan St. and Nebraska," he replied.

Schools are recruiting Campbell to play both defensive end and right tackle. Does he have a preference where he plays at the next level?

"I kind of prefer defensive end, and defense," he said. "It's not a big deal though."

"At the Elite combine I mostly worked at defensive end."

Campbell reports a 2.6 g.p.a. He will take the SAT for the first time on June 4th.

He said he'd likely make a decision after next season.

Comment: While Campbell hasn't heard from Notre Dame recently, we expect that will change. We heard that he had a very impressive workout at the Elite combine, and the Irish staff was on site to witness it. He has a solid list of offers, so he is a guy to keep an eye on.
