Jackson Still Setting Visits

Richard Jackson

There is still a long way to go before Richard Jackson makes his college decision. Miami and Notre Dame still have to be considered the front-runners, but his official visits will tell the tale.

Every college football coach will tell you how valuable big wide receivers can be. For that matter, look at the Detroit Lions last three first round picks – all big wide receivers.

Richard Jackson, WR, 6-2, 200 pounds, Clermont, Fla., (East Ridge) now must decide which schools to make official visits to. Do not count on Miami and Notre Dame being the only schools Jackson will take a hard look at like many people think.

"I might not take my Miami visit," Jackson said. "I might have to reschedule it. We play the night before up at Columbia City near Tally (Tallahassee). I won't be home until about 1 am."

Jackson is still set to visit Notre Dame when the Irish host Southern California on Oct. 15. But there is another school Jackson is considering seriously.

"I might take an official visit to Georgia Tech," Jackson said.

Jackson took his official visit to Pittsburgh this past weekend. What did he think of the Panthers' coaching staff?

"They were all really nice," Jackson commented.

What did Jackson think of Notre Dame's offensive performance?

"I was a little disappointed at first," he admitted. "I was like, ‘are they just going to throw to the running backs and tight ends?' Then they started to throw to the wide receivers so they got me back."

Jackson and his teammates from East Ridge pulled out an exciting victory in their last game.

We were down 13 points with three minutes to go," Jackson said excitedly. "We returned a kickoff for a touchdown after they scored. They could have run out the clock if they ran the ball. We couldn't really stop them, but they threw the ball and I intercepted it. Then I caught a touchdown pass."

Several college coaches are hoping Jackson scores many touchdowns for them.

SMITTY'S TAKE - As long as Notre Dame hosts Jackson for the Southern California weekend, that is all one can hope for. The Irish are certainly a school Jackson likes a lot.

It will be interesting to see when Jackson visits Miami. I don't think Pittsburgh will likely be a player in the end.
