Josh Brent (6-3, 295-pounds) was one of the top recruits in attendance for Notre Dame's Blue-Gold Game and he echoed the sentiments of almost every other recruit in attendance.
"It was great," Brent said of his Blue-Gold Game experience. "I stayed up there Friday night. I went on campus and talked to some of the students, and the students are great people. The fans love Notre Dame football. They definitely treated me like a superstar. I don't even have an offer and I was walking out of the stadium signing autographs. The fans are great. Like I said I don't have an offer and they still showed their support. It definitely made me fell good.
"I met Brady Quinn. He's a nice guy, and of course he's going to be a superstar. That was great. I talked to some of the other prospects that were there. I'd say the guys in my [recruiting] class are what really did it for me. I think we were all sort of connecting there while we were at the game. We pretty much just had fun at the game. It wasn't too serious; everyone was laid back, and friendly with one another. I think we clicked as a group. It was real good."
Although everything didn't turn out as Josh wanted, he did come away from his visit pleased.
"Besides not getting the offer I would definitely say [I got what I wanted from the visit]," Brent said. "I was definitely looking forward to getting an offer, but other than that you can't beat it. Jerome Bettis, a Super Bowl champion, Mike Golic…it was a great atmosphere to be in and I was glad I could be a part of it.
"I got to talk to coach Weis a little bit and he was saying that he has been watching my film and that he'd be in town for the Adidas combine while the rest of the coaches go on the road. He's going to be watching me. That reassured me that they were still interested in me.
"I don't know if they're going to offer anytime soon, but they'll be watching me during the Adidas combine that will be on their campus next weekend. They didn't offer, but if have a good weekend I think they will."
As a junior Brent had 109 tackles, 29 tackles for loss and six sacks.
Defensive tackle Josh Brent of Central Catholic high school (Bloomington, Ill.) made his second unofficial trip of the year to Notre Dame this past Saturday. Josh was looking to get a more personal feel for the campus and for the university, and he wasn't disappointed.
