Martin back from South Bend

Scout.com's No. 7-rated defensive end Ben Martin of La Salle High School (Cincinnati, Ohio) wasn't too interested in getting wrapped up in recruiting, but as the year moved on, and he watched college football games, the more he wanted to enjoy the experience. This past weekend Ben made his first official visit to South Bend to watch the Irish take on Stanford.

Ben Martin (6-foot-6, 220 pounds) had already visited Notre Dame several times, but the official visit to Notre Dame is the best time for recruits to get a feel for what being a student at Notre Dame is all about.

"My visit was great," Martin responded when asked about his official visit to Notre Dame. "I've been to Notre Dame a lot so I really didn't see anything that I didn't expect. I just wanted to get more comfortable with the campus and meet some players and see how they lived.

"The students are real laid back. I wouldn't have any trouble fitting in up there. Kallen Wade was my host. He's a good guy. We hung out with a bunch of players and all the recruits. I really liked them all.

"Victor is real cool," Martin said of the Irish senior defensive end. "I talked to him for a while. It was scary though because I can see a lot of myself in him. We're very similar physically and our personalities. I can really see myself in the future being a lot like him."

Before Martin left campus he sat down with the Notre Dame coaches to discuss his trip and talk about issues that had not been addressed over the weekend.

"I met with coach Weis, coach Minter and coach Oliver, but I've met with them before. The meeting was really more for my parents than it was for me. I've sat down with the coaches in the past and I've talked to them already, so this was a chance for them to get to know the coaches and ask questions.

"They answered all their questions. I think everything went real well. I really don't have any questions about Notre Dame.

"I have a long way to go and I have a lot of things to think about," Martin said. "This was my first official visit and I still have more to take. I know I'll visit Ohio State, Florida and Tennessee."
