Weis Autobiography Released Today
By
Mike Frank
Posted Oct 10, 2006
“No Excuses” is the title of a new autobiography by Irish head coach Charlie Weis out on bookshelves today. It is a 226-page book meant to chronicle his eventual path from being pre-teen sports nut in Middlesex, N.J. to landing the most prestigious job in college football.
Weis, with very Jersey-like candor, dishes the goods about his childhood, his short career as an athlete, and his eventual rise to winning numerous Super Bowls and landing a dream job in Notre Dame.
The second-year Irish coach tells tales of childhood, family, hard work, discipline and heartache as well as detailing the very highs of his coaching career. But along with the peaks, Weis openly admits to valleys and the mistakes he’s made in both his life and career.
Irish fans won’t learn any intricate details of a Weis-run program, but they will find a number of interesting stories and details not previously known about his life and career, as well as the coaching search that eventually resulted in his hiring at Notre Dame.
The book certainly explains the shaping of his no-nonsense attitude and gives insight into the molding of Weis as the coach he is today.
I found the book to be a very easy and pleasant read. One can comfortably finish it over a relaxing weekend.
Those that are fans of the Weis press conferences will find the tone of the book very much in line with the attitude and frankness many have grown to love about Weis over the previous two years.
I highly recommend “No Excuses” for all Irish fans.

We’ll also have an interview with Weis about the book during our next Power Hour scheduled for Wednesday, so check back later for details on that interview.
