Notre Dame had just begun to take interest in Chris Perry (6-3, 315-pounds) when he committed to his childhood favorite Miami in June. A turbulent season for the Hurricanes has given Perry reason to take a look at other schools.
"I just want to look around a little and make sure Miami is where I want to be," Perry said when asked if he was solidly committed to Miami. "With all the talk that coach Coker might lose his job it's making me feel that I might want to have a backup plan. Maybe if I visit Notre Dame or wherever, I might see something that tells me that's where I need to be. Maybe it will help me in the long run more than Miami.
Notre Dame certainly could use Perry's talent on the defensive front and it appears the Irish staff has inquired about his interest in visiting South Bend.
"My coach said he spoke with coach Oliver and he told me that my offer is still good at Notre Dame," Perry explained. "In the spring when I talked to coach Weis, he said they were satisfied with the ACT score I had, but that I should consider taking another ACT.
"I haven't talked to the [Notre Dame] coaches, I kind of took everything from what my coach said, but I've been keeping up with Notre Dame. Hopefully I can get a hold of someone over there and set up an official visit.
"I want to go up there and take my visit and see how it everything is up there," Perry said. "Watching the games I can tell they need some defensive tackles. All of their defensive tackles are graduating, so they'll be real thin. Maybe I can get up there and get coached up, get in and make an impact. They have the offense and their defense has been good too, but maybe I can make an impact and make the defense even better."
Perry will need to set a visit date with the Irish coaching staff. Until that time, Chris will be checking out other programs.
"I'm taking an official to Nebraska this Saturday," Perry said. "They played Texas real good. Then I'm taking my official to Oklahoma the next weekend.
"The day after I committed to Miami I got an offer from OU. Now that I reopened my recruiting, I need to show them a lot of interest."
