Hendersonville, Tenn. running back prospect Golden Tate has been waiting for an important offer since recruiting began and it looks like that offer might finally be on the way.
6-foot, 190-pound running back
Golden Tate
has not hidden his interest in Notre Dame since the very beginning. The Scout.com four-star prospect had been wanting an offer from the Irish for quite some time and might just get his wish.
“I actually talked to coach Minter and coach Weis last night,” Tate said. “They said they liked my film and that they were very interested. They told me a long time ago that they needed to get my test scores before offering me. It sounds like they might be offering soon. I hope so.”
Tate finally did get his test scores back and the reason why the Irish are likely to get in the race.
“I didn’t get my scores back, but I looked them up on line and I scored a 26,” Tate said. “I was pretty happy about that.”
Tate was also excited to hear from Notre Dame.
“Notre Dame has been on the top of my list from the beginning, even though they hadn’t offered me,” Tate said. “I was real happy to hear from them.”
While an Irish offer is likely on the way, Tate also has plenty of other suitors he’s still interested in.
“I’m going to go to Notre Dame on December 1st,” Tate said. “I'll probably take a few visits. I'm not sure when. I'm just setting up the visits when my favorites call me to set them up.”
But it appears the Irish might be the team to beat if the offer does come.
“I just want to go up there and check it out,” Tate said of Notre Dame. “I’m excited about it. I think I’ll like it as much as everyone else does. I’ve always wanted an offer from Notre Dame. They’ve been at the top for awhile.”
The Irish did jump into the mix late, but Tate says that won’t be an issue for him when choosing a school.
"No, because I know why they waited,” Tate said when asked if the Irish might have an uphill battle after getting in the race late for his signature. “They didn't have my scores. I know what Notre Dame stands for with their academics. I knew they couldn't offer me until I qualified. That won't bother me."
