Notre Dame and Iowa were caught up in a five-hour rainstorm but it didn’t change the final outcome. The Hawkeyes routed the Irish 8-1 down in Deland, Florida at the Stetson Invitational. The loss sends the Irish to 2-6 on the year. Tomorrow, Notre Dame will battle Nebraska at 1 PM.
In a rain-shortened contest, Notre Dame allowed Iowa to score in five of the first six innings. It caused the Hawkeyes to control an 8-0 lead. Junior left-hander Wade Korpi took the loss, sending him to 1-2 on the year. He allowed six runs (three earned) on eight hits in 4.1 innings of work. Iowa’s Steve Turnbill earned the win, taking a no-hitter into the fifth inning. The Irish were able to manage only three hits in the contest.
