When John Carlson leaves the Notre Dame program at the end of the 2007 season, the Irish coaching staff wants to add a player in the mold of Carlson; a player that can block top defensive ends and on the next play beat a safety downfield. If there is that type of tight end in this recruiting class, it is likely Kyle Rudolph of Elder High School (Cincinnati, Ohio).
