Bo Schembechler recruited Chris Zorich, envisioning the Chicago Vocational standout as the stop-gap along Michigan’s defensive line. Zorich on the other hand had dreams of being a collegiate linebacker, and chose Notre Dame over Northwestern. But the Michigan coach had the right idea, and it didn’t take Irish head coach Lou Holtz long to figure it out.
