Michael Floyd (6-foot3, 200 pounds) was one of the first recruits in the 2008 recruiting class to receive an offer from the Notre Dame coaching staff and it is likely that the Irish will hold a spot for the standout wide receiver until he makes his college decision. Although a number of recruiting fans are anxious to find out where he will attend college, Floyd is trying to enjoy the remainder of his summer.
"Nothing much is going on, I'm just lifting and going to our running group," Floyd responded when asked about his recruitment. "I'm trying to take the recruiting part off my mind and relax a little bit."
A month ago Floyd visited Notre Dame for their summer football camp. Although he spent five days in South Bend, he only worked out for a couple of those days.
"It went well," Floyd said of his visit. "It was a little different than usual. I got to hang out with the players more and do my own thing. I did work out. I'm still trying to improve on. There are always things that I can improve on, but it was fun."
This weekend Mike was planning on taking a trip to the University of Florida for their ‘Friday Night Lights' football camp, but those plans aren't going to materialize.
"I'm not going to be able to go to Florida this weekend," he explained. "I have a basketball tournament this weekend, so I'm not going to be able to go."
Floyd doesn't want his recruitment to interfere with his senior season, but he will start to focus more on his college decision.
"It's about seven schools still, Michigan, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Iowa and Florida," Floyd said of the schools still under consideration. "I've got to talk to my parents about my official visits. I think I'm going to go to the Notre Dame-USC game. I don't know how many official visits I'll take though. It could be one, two or three…I don't know right now.
"I haven't decided when I'm going to announce," he added.
