1. Boston College (7-0) (2): Ranked 2nd last week, the Eagles could be the second-straight IE No. 1 to fall when they travel to Virginia Tech this Thursday.
2. Ohio State (8-0) (3): The Buckeyes held on to beat Michigan State, 24-17. Tough game at Penn State this weekend.
3. LSU (7-1) (5): A 22-yard miracle touchdown pass from Matt Flynn to Demetrius Byrd stole victory from the hands of defeat in the 30-24 home victory over a very good Auburn team. The Tigers leap-frogged Oklahoma with the win.
4. Oklahoma (7-1) (4): The Sooners were shutout in the first half by a very bad Iowa State team, before winning 17-7 on the road.
5. Arizona State (7-0) (8): The Sun Devils had a bye last weekend, but moved up three spots with losses by Kentucky, South Carolina and South Florida. They host California this weekend.
6. Oregon (6-1) (9): The Ducks rushed for a school-record 465 yards in a 55-34 victory over Washington.
7. Missouri (6-1) (10): The defense intercepted Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell four times and held the nation’s best offense in check, beating the Red Raiders 41-10. For the second-straight week, the Tigers were without starting running back Tony Temple.
8. South Florida (6-1) (1): The Bulls were awful on special teams and couldn’t protect quarterback Matt Grothe in the second half, and South Florida suffered its first loss of the season, a 30-27 defeat at Rutgers.
9. West Virginia (6-1) (11): Steve Slaton rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown, as the Mountaineers rolled up 28 first-quarter points in the 38-13 win over Mississippi State.
10. Virginia Tech (6-1) (13): The Hokies were off this past weekend and take on IE’s top-ranked Boston College at home on Thursday night.
11. USC (6-1) (14): The Trojans beat host Notre Dame 38-0, and look poised for a late-season run.
12. Kansas (7-0) (15): Can you name five players that play for the Jayhawks? Regardless, Kansas keeps winning, this time beating host Colorado 19-14 last Saturday.
13. Florida (5-2) (18): Tim Tebow threw for four touchdown passes and ran for another in an exciting 45-37 win at Kentucky.
14. Kentucky (6-2) (6): Andre Woodson had 415 yards passing and five touchdowns, but the Wildcats couldn’t stop Tebow and Florida in the 45-37 loss.
15. Texas (6-2) (20): The Longhorns beat Baylor for the 10th straight time, this one by a 31-10 margin.
16. Virginia (7-1) (21): Mikell Simpson’s one-yard touchdown with 16 seconds to play, gave the Cavaliers a 18-17 victory over host Maryland.
17. South Carolina (6-2) (7): The Gamecocks gave up 17 points in the first quarter and could never recover, losing at home to Vanderbilt, 17-6.
18. Michigan (6-2) (23): Without top runner and Heisman candidate Mike Hart, the Wolverines beat Illinois 27-17 in Champaign, Ill.
19. Georgia (5-2) (24): The Bulldogs were idle last weekend.
20. California (5-2) (12): The Golden Bears lost their second straight, falling to UCLA 30-21.
21. Auburn (5-3) (16): The Tigers nearly upset LSU in Death Valley, losing 30-24 on a last-second touchdown pass.
22. Hawaii (7-0) (25): New Mexico State is up next for the idle Warriors.
23. Alabama (6-2) (UR): John Parker Wilson threw for a career-high 363 yards and three touchdowns in the 41-17 win over Tennessee.
24. Rutgers (5-2) (UR): Ray Rice ran for 181 yards, and the Scarlet Knights all but ended South Florida’s National Championship hopes in the 30-27 victory.
25. Penn State (6-2) (UR): The Nittany Lions ruined Indiana’s homecoming with a 36-31 road win.
