Running back Zach Zwinak
has picked up a number of offers already this winter, but he received one on Wednesday that surprised him.
"This wasn't one I expected," Zwinak said of his recent offer from Notre Dame. "I spoke with coach Weis and he said he liked me and wanted to find out if I was interested in Notre Dame. I said yes and then he said he was going to offer me a full scholarship to Notre Dame."
The Frederick, Md. native said he was taken aback by the offer. "I was like, wow, it actually happened," he said. "It's not really a school I ever thought much about, but I'm going to now.
"I thought I'd get some interest from some of the local schools like Virginia and Maryland, but I never thought I'd get interest from a school that far away and a school like Notre Dame."
The Irish like the Linganore high school star as a fullback in college.
"He said they like me at fullback. They only have one fullback on the roster right now, and he's a converted linebacker. He felt I'd have a great shot since they only have the one fullback. I like fullback. I like fullback or running back. It doesn't matter to me…..wherever I can get on the field the fastest."
Now that Zwinak has his offer, is he going to visit Notre Dame anytime soon?
"I don't know," he said. "It's all kind of new to me. I think I will. I'm going to sit down and figure out a plan on visiting some schools. I want to see what Notre Dame is about. My parents thought it was a good offer and one I should consider."
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound athlete says he's got a lot of offers to consider and probably won't be making a decision anytime soon.
"I think I have 12, I'm not sure," he said on offers. "I probably can't remember them all. Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Maryland, Penn State, Cal, Stanford, Michigan, Rutgers, Pitt, and now Notre Dame.
"I plan on making a decision sometime after my senior season. I'll probably take some visits and see how it goes."
: Zwinak is the only fullback the Irish have offered at this point in the recruiting season.
Fullback Zach Zwinak has seen his stock rise quite a bit over the past few months, but 6-foot-2, 225-pound running back prospect wasn't quite prepared for what he received on Wednesday of this week.
