Notre Dame pounded out 20 hits in a 14-8 home win over Central Michigan on Tuesday.

Notre Dame brought its bats out again on Tuesday evening, banging out 20 hits in a 14-8 win over Central Michigan in an independent game at Frank Eck Stadium.

Notre Dame improves to 14-7 on the season while the Chippewas drop to 9-13.

A.J. Pollock led the Irish offense with four hits, three RBI, two steals and a two-run homer, his third of the year. Golden Tate, David Mills and Greg Sherry notched three hits apiece. Tate added a stolen base and scored twice, while Mills scored three times and Sherry knocked in three.

Ryan Richter pitched three innings of scoreless relief to earn his second win of the season.

Matt Scioscia had a two-run single in the top of the first as the Irish took a 3-0 lead. Central Michigan used an error to score six unearned runs off of Notre Dame starter Dustin Ipsas to take a 6-3 lead in the second.

Mills singled home Tommy Chase to get a run back in the Irish half of the second, but Central Michigan extended the lead to 7-4 in the fourth. Sherry and Chase notched RBI singles as Notre Dame made it a 7-6 game in the sixth.

Notre Dame finally regained its lead in the sixth when Pollock blasted a two-run homer before Jeremy Barnes scored on a Cameron McConnell fielder’s choice to make it 9-7. The Irish added five in the eighth highlighted by Sherry’s two-run single.

Notre Dame will be back in action on Wednesday with a 5:05 home game against Oakland. Steve Sabatino will start the independent game for the Irish.
