Irish still in contact with Jefferson

Athlete Anthony Jefferson from Cathedral High School (Los Angeles, Calif.) doesn't care what position he plays in college, he just wants to be on the field. Notre Dame has been staying in contact with him and he's still interested in the Irish.

Notre Dame would like to add a couple more defensive backs to this recruiting class. They haven't offered Anthony Jefferson (6-foot-2, 180-pounds) a scholarship at this time, but the Irish coaching staff has been staying in touch with him.

"I've been talking to coach Brown," Jefferson said. "He wants to get down here and make sure I really like the school and that I have a good idea about the school before they do anything. Coach Brown and I have been talking about the school a lot and that's been helping find out more about Notre Dame.

What Jefferson has discovered about Notre Dame is that he likes the direction of the football program. Although the Irish defense has struggled at times this year, Anthony likes what he has seen.

"I've watched a couple of their games," Jefferson said. "I just like the way their defense gets after it. They may be down in the game, but having the players that they have, being well coached, I just see them getting after it. I really like that about their defense. They're flying around the ball this year. I really like that.

"Notre Dame always had a good program with Charlie Weis. They're known for their success over the years. They're really building their program up. They had a really good recruiting class last year and I see where they're going with their program."

Jefferson has taken official visits to Oregon and Cal thus far. Notre Dame, USC and UCLA could also receive futures visits, but that is on hold at this time.

"As of right now, I'm going to go after my season, because I'm trying to focus on our games right now," Jefferson explained. "We're 6-0 right now. We have three more weeks left in the season. I'm doing pretty well. I have an interception for a touchdown. On offense I have 14 touchdown and about 800 yards receiving and about 36 catches."
