Punahou Pipeline?

Jeremy Ioane

Notre Dame signed Manti Te'o and Roby Toma from the Punahou School (Honolulu, Hawaii) in last year's recruiting class and it looks like Brian Kelly and his staff have their eyes on one of their former teammates, senior safety Jeremy Ioane.

Brian Kelly's staff doesn't appear to be standing pat with the scholarships that have already been extended. While safety Jeremy Ioane (5-foot-10, 175-pounds) doesn't have an offer from the Irish staff at this time, he may receive one if he makes the 4,300 mile trip from Honolulu to South Bend.

"I want to," Ioane responded when asked about if he is playing to take an official visit to Notre Dame. "I want to go check it out. I think they're talking about the last weekend of the month. I think January 29.

"I've been talking to Roby (Toma), and he told me that the coaches are excited to bring me up. They watched my highlight tape and want to bring me up for a visit.

"I just started talking them about a week ago," he said. "I haven't really had a chance to talk to the coaches much, but they said they wanted to bring me up. I think they want to talk about a scholarship offer when I get up there.

"They haven't really talked to me about a position yet," he said. "They pretty much talked about whether I'd have interest in Notre Dame, and if I'd want to come up for a visit and check it out and that we'd go from there. I think my best position and one that I'd have more fun playing is strong safety or rover."

Although two of his former teammates are on the Irish roster, Ioane admits he has a lot to learn about Notre Dame.

"I really don't know too much about Notre Dame right now," Jeremy explained. "I really don't know much about the school, the community, or the football program yet.

"I don't really mind the distance. I'm mostly concerned about fitting around the football players and the community and embracing everything around the school. I'm just looking at fitting in someplace that I'm comfortable."

Ioane has already taken official visits to Boise St. and Washington.
