Notre Dame's 2-0 bounce-back effort last week and Harangody's 37-point outburst vs. Cincinnati helped pave the way for another league honor.

The following is a release courtesy Notre Dame athletics:

Luke Harangody (Schererville, Ind.) has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for the second time this season after averaging 28.0 points and 14.5 rebounds and leading Notre Dame to wins over Cincinnati (83-65) and USF (65-62) last week. This marks the sixth time that Harangody has earned the honor during his career.

Dane Miller of Rutgers was named the conference’s rookie of the week, while Austin Freeman of Georgetown, Lazar Hayward of Marquette, Dominique Jones of USF, Kris Joseph of Syracuse and Da’Sean Butler of West Virgina were selected to the conference’s Weekly Honor Roll.

Harangody collected double-doubles in each of the two victories that were the 62nd and 63rd of his career. In the win over Cincinnati, he scored a season-high 37 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while playing 38 minutes. In the victory over the Bulls, he finished with 19 points and matched a season-best with 15 rebounds as he extended his double-figure scoring streak to 29 games (second longest of his career).

The senior captain is averaging 24.5 points and 10.1 rebounds. He stands third nationally in scoring and 20th in rebounding. In overall games, he leads the BIG EAST in scoring and is second in rebounding. Through the 11 BIG EAST conference games he has played, he is second in both scoring and rebounding with averages of 25.0 points and 10.4 rebounds.

Currently, Harangody stands second all-time on the career scoring and rebounding lists at Notre Dame with 2,412 points and 1,192 rebounds. He ranks fifth all-time on the BIG EAST career scoring list (conference regular-season games only) with 1,311 points and is second all-time in rebounding with 654 boards.

With a 20.9 career scoring average and a 10.4 career rebounding average in league play, Harangody is looking to become the first player in BIG EAST history to conclude his career averaging 20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds.
