2011 St.Louis quarterback Christian Suntrup added his fifth scholarship offer on Monday when a ACC…
Suntrup Is Hitting the Road
"I've been keeping in touch with the Notre Dame coaching staff, and we'll be at the junior day on March 20. I'm pretty excited about getting back up there and getting to know the new staff a little more. I actually know coach Warinner pretty well, because I talked to him when he was at the University of Kansas. Our relationship was pretty good. The thing with the new staff is that it's a new relationship, but I'm excited to get an opportunity to know them more… I think it'll be a good experience.
Brian Kelly opted to sign three quarterbacks in the 2010 recruiting class, a number that could be a concern for potential recruits evaluating Notre Dame's depth chart.
"They probably had to take three with Jimmy leaving," Suntrup said "That was probably just the situation that they were in, where they had to fill in some spots. I think there is going to be competition wherever you go, and there's going to be a lot of quarterbacks. There's just going to be competition no matter what.
"I'm just excited to talk to the new staff, to get to know them, get to see what direction they're headed and spend some quality time with them. I got to know the area around Notre Dame, so I think it's important to get to know the staff and see how they feel about various things."
Suntrup has four scholarship offers from Minnesota, Stanford, Nebraska, and Kansas. Since quarterback prospects tend to commit earlier in the process Christian is trying to get out and see as many schools as he can prior to making his decision.
"I've been in contact with a lot of schools," he said. "I've been to Iowa's junior day, along with Kansas's and Nebraska's. I plan on seeing Illinois, and possibly Boston College. I've been staying in touch with a lot of different schools like Northwestern, Iowa, and Illinois, Boise St. has now come into the picture.
"It is different with quarterbacks deciding pretty early in the process. I'm getting out and seeing schools, so I'm pretty confident that I'll be ready to decide sometime over the summer. I think that will be the most appropriate and best time for me.
"I think it's important to go to the camp whether you have an offer, or you don't," Suntrup explained. "You want to see how you work with the coaches and especially the quarterback coach and the offensive coordinator. I think it's important to head to their camps, to get a chance to work with them, to see what it's like because that's what you're going to be dealing with for the next four years."
