Springmann Has a Better Feel for ND Staff

Tony Springmann hadn't been hearing much from the Notre Dame coaching staff until he received his invitation to the junior day held on March 20. The junior offense tackle prospect from Bishop Dwenger High School (Ft. Wayne, Ind.) decided to make the trip to South Bend and he was pleased with the results of the visit.

Tony Springmann (6-foot-7, 260-pounds) was concerned going into the recent Notre Dame junior day about the lack of contact that he had from the Notre Dame coaching staff. So, one of his goals heading into the weekend event was to find out where he stood with the Irish coaches.

"Things went well," Springmann said. "I went up there to meet the new coaching staff, because I've seen the facilities a few times, but I really wanted to get in touch with the offensive line coach and coach Kelly. When I talked to coach Warinner he said that he was very impressed with my size and that I looked a lot bigger than he thought I was. So that was a good thing. He said that they want to offer, but that they want to see me work out. They want to see my hip flexibility and my movement."

Although Springmann was hoping to land an offer from Notre Dame, he feels he has a better understanding of whether he fits into the plans of the Notre Dame staff.

"I feel a little bit better because the more I think about it the more I realize that they're going to offer the kids far away and the national 5-star, blue-chip guys," Springmann explained. "Coach Warinner said that that was the case and that I was in the second batch, the more local recruits. He was upfront and honest about it, so I respect that.

"I like the staff, but I didn't get a chance to talk to them too much. They're very confident in what they do. Coach Kelly's track record speaks for itself… bring Cincinnati from nowhere to being a national contender. There's no doubt that he can coach good players and make them great players.

Springmann isn't going to stand still waiting on the Irish to extend a scholarship offer. Tony already has plans to get out and visit a few more schools.

"One of the things I'm going to do this spring break is to go out to Palo Alto (Calif.) to visit Stanford," Tony said. "Remound (Wright) is going out there too, but I'm not sure of the logistics of everything, but it's possible that we meet up out there.

"I just talked to Boston College. I think I'm going out there this summer. I'll also get out there to see Harvard, Wake Forest and Duke. I'll probably take a week, or week and a half to go out there with my parents and little brother."
