Anello Champions St. Baldrick's Foundation

Walk-on turned special teams demon Mike Anello takes on a greater challenge in his association with the St. Baldrick's Foundation.

Former Irish special teams star Mike Anello began his involvement with the St. Baldrick's Foundation in 2009, participating in a charity event at Notre Dame to raise money for the children's cancer research organization.

This spring, Anello's goal has been to raise $5,000 (while the University of Notre Dame looks to double last year's $26,000 donation level for the foundation). Anello has championed the cause through efforts on his own blog.

This weekend's Blue Gold Game marks the end of Anello's 2010 push for his goal of a $5,000 donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. For more information on the Foundation, visit the St. Baldrick's home page.

Several members of the Notre Dame football team will participate in the Bald & The Beautiful fundraiser for St. Baldrick's Foundation at 6:45 pm Wednesday evening at LaFortune Student Center (Dooley Room, Sorin Room and LaFortune Ballroom) on Notre Dame's campus.

Current football players will walk to LaFortune Student Center approximately one hour following Wednesday's practice and will have their heads shaved to help raise money for St. Baldrick's Foundation, a charity devoted to fighting childhood cancer.

The event includes head shaving and fundraising for St. Baldrick's, donating hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths and the sale of colored hair extensions that will benefit South Bend's Memorial Hospital. The donations fund childhood cancer research grants.
