SOUTH BEND- The defensive numbers don’t look great in the Irish’s 81-78 win over the Friars Thursday night at the Joyce Center. Notre Dame allowed Providence to shoot 52 percent from the floor. Herbert Hill and Jonathan Kale killed down low as the Friars accumulated 44 points in the paint. But midway through the second half with the score tied, a few stops made all the difference.
