| Jeremie Simmons, the 2008 Junior College Division II Player of the Year, transferred to Ohio State after spending two seasons at Mott Community College in Flint, Mich. Simmons led Mott to Division II National Junior College Athletics Association National Championships each of the last two seasons with a 35-3 record in 2007 and a 35-2 mark in 2008.
As a sophomore, Simmons was named a first-team NJCAA All-American, was a All-Michigan Community College Athletics Association selection and named the league’s player of the year. Simmons averaged a team-high 21.2 points per game with 268 of 555 (.483) made field goals, 122 of 289 (.422) 3-pointers and 125 of 139 (.899) free throws made for a total of 783 points. He finished ranked No. 11 nationally in scoring and ranked No. 2 on the team in assists (185) and steals (110).
As a freshman in 2006-07, Simmons was named MCCAA Freshman of the Year. He averaged 16.6 points a game in 34 appearances. He led the squad with 145 assists and rated third for the Bears with 73 steals.
Simmons played prep basketball for Von Steubon Metropolitan Science Center in Chicago and will have two year of eligibility with the Scarlet and Gray.
Simmons is the son of Valarie Dunbar. He has three siblings, Jakara, Jvarus and Amirra. Simmons enjoys playing video games and spending time with this family. After graduation Simmons plans to coach basketball or become a math teacher. |
